Joy Reid: Kamala Unpopular Because of “White Media”

Vice President Kamala Harris’s low approval rating is not the product of her time in office, but rather her portrayal in a “white and male media,” according to MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
The white, male media will not let Harris, whose approval rating sits at 41%, put her personality on display, Reid said in an interview published Sunday.
“She’s just a regular sister in the same way people would always say that Michelle Obama is like if your cousin became first lady. Kamala Harris is like if your cousin became VP of the United States,” she told the Root.
PUBLIC’S BELIEF IN GOD DROPS TO HISTORIC LOW: POLL
“I think she doesn’t get to show that personality often enough, and so people haven’t had a chance to get to know her.”
A negative narrative propagated by a traditional white and male media has shrouded the vice president, according to Reid.
She is often displayed as an ineffective leader who stumbles when delivering remarks, according to a report.
That is an unfair and untrue reflection of her abilities, Reid said.
“Most of the media is still white and male,” she said. “And their take on Kamala Harris becomes the take. It becomes conventional wisdom.”
“The job she’s had is dead serious and this time is so serious,” Reid said. “Think about her portfolio: voting rights, immigration and the border, and police reform. The things on her plate are the toughest things that the Biden administration has to deal with outside of inflation and the war in Ukraine.”
Harris provided President Joe Biden the black female vote, Reid added.
